CIPD Annual Employment Law Conference

An endless flow of new employment legislation continues to reach the statute book

An endless flow of new employment legislation continues to reach the statute book. Employers will need to review their discipline and grievance procedures in the light of the Employment Bill, while agreement was recently reached in Brussels on new European directives on agency working and working time. Meanwhile the onus rests on HR professionals to keep up to date with changes in the law on, for example, transfer of undertakings and sex discrimination.

The CIPD will be holding its Annual Employment Law conference on 2-3 July, at Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, London to examine these and other issues.

The first day, including a comprehensive programme, will examine the latest legislative changes and feature a keynote address from Employment Affairs Minister, Pat McFadden MP. The morning sessions will be run by Dominic Regan and Ian Smith, both experts in their field, who will allow plenty of time for delegates to raise questions.

After lunch delegates will have the opportunity to attend a seminar focusing on one of the following:

The Role of Mediation in Managing Workplace Conflict
Employment Contracts in the 21st Century
Discrimination Law Update

The second focus day on 3 July will concentrate on legal issues associated with Managing a Restructure. This will examine some of the complicated issues that can arise, such as when TUPE applies and how to make redundancies without coming up against charges of unfair dismissal or discrimination.

Mike Emmott, CIPD Employee Relations Adviser, says: ìWith new employment legislation constantly being introduced at both national and European level, it continues to be important for HR practitioners to ensure that they know what the law requires of employers.

ìNext monthís conference will not only bring delegates up to date with new legislation, but will give them the opportunity to ask specific questions relevant to their own organisation.î
