Assessment specialist PSL has re-established Chesterton, the London estate agency, as an employer of choice by enhancing its ability to select and recruit talented individuals who can provide a superior service.
Karen Orr, HR Director at Chesterton, said: Staff turnover in our residential division had long been a concern, so we seized the opportunity to really strive to become an employer of choice. We made it our priority to recruit and retain the best people, so our customers would benefit from exceptional service from established teams.
PSL defined a set of competencies for Chesterton, which are used for staff selection and in the firmís performance management process, and it trained the HR team to review roles and develop job descriptions for the co-ordinators, property consultants and the management and support teams in the branches, as well as the area managers.
Chesterton is also using two online personality questionnaires from PSL, to gain a more accurate picture of the traits and preferences of potential new recruits.
The Rapid Personality Questionnaire provides insights into
personality characteristics and is used by managers for branch- based roles. The Occupational Personality Inventory, a more sophisticated questionnaire, is used when recruiting for managerial posts.
PSL ran an interviewing skills training course for all 50 of Chestertonís sales and lettings managers, explaining how to use the Rapid Personality Questionnaire and how to conduct competency- based interviews.
