Chameleon Careers Sites

Do mobile careers sites have to be a cut-down experience?

Until now candidates have had to suffer reduced functionality when using their phones to search and apply for jobs. Now there’s a new and more advanced way of doing things. eArcu have developed an adaptive solution that is equally happy on a PC, pad or phone - and not just a particular phone but any phone.

Employers want to add a mobile dimension to their careers offering. But what should they ask for? ATS suppliers might show off something on an iPhone4 but will it work on an iPhone5 or iPhone3, or what about a Blackberry, or a Samsung? Until now Applicant Tracking Solutions could only offer a limited piece of software for candidates to perform some very basic tasks on their phones.

Thanks to their collaboration with EE the parent company of Orange and T-Mobile, eArcu have developed a solution for all devices with a single piece of software. EE asked eArcu to push the boundaries by demanding that their entire recruitment journey was inspiring whether on laptop, tablet or phone.

Andy Randall, CEO eArcu, picks up the story “Our developers were asked to create a complete mobile careers experience that could be used by candidates anywhere, on any device, at any point in the process – right through to on-boarding. The big challenge was to avoid a ‘lowest common denominator’ approach and build something ground-breaking that could intelligently recognise the screen it was being used on, and re-organise itself accordingly.”

This means that the richness of the experience on an iPhone matches that on an iPad, or that on a laptop. Something never before achieved in a recruitment solution.

Another big flaw with the old way of doing things is the rate at which new phones and tablets are released to consumers. When a supplier builds specifically for an iPhone they have enough challenges with the difference versions of that device – and no chance of using the same software on other smart phones

For example, ATS providers who developed an “app” for the iPhone4 now find it needs redevelopment for the new screen size of the iPhone5. The eArcu solution has the intelligence to “adapt” itself automatically to either platform – making the most of the full screen on each device. Meanwhile, eArcu are able to look forward confidently to the launch of new and improved phones to showcase their software.
