Bluecollar Says Recruiters Need To Be More Creative In the Australian Market

Niche job board bluecollar.com.au says companies seeking technical and trades staff need to be more creative with their recruitment campaigns to compete with the high paying resources industry

Niche job board bluecollar.com.au says companies seeking technical and trades staff need to be more creative with their recruitment campaigns to compete with the high paying resources industry.

Bluecollar.com.au Sales Manager Mariel Castro said many private and public sector employers within Australia were experiencing difficulties not only finding but also retaining staff due to the steep salaries on offer from mining companies.

ìOne major local government authority in Victoria has been advertising in Brisbane in their desperation to find technical and trades workers,î Ms Castro said.

She said with staff shortages continuing around Australia, particularly for skilled jobs, employers needed to be more creative and innovative to attract jobseekers.

ìThey have to paint a big picture about what their company has to offer would-be employees,î Ms Castro said.

ìIf thereís a company doing exciting things, then people will want to work for them.

ìOften people are looking for more than a big salary. Big selling points will include opportunities for career advancement and training, flexible working hours, leave benefits and the promise of regular staff social events.î

Brisbane-based bluecollar.com.au is a niche job search website that specialises in advertising technical and trade positions online. The site was first launched in 2003, and is the only one of its kind in the Australian recruitment market.

ìOur main aim is to channel as much relevant traffic we can to our site, providing good quality candidates to the employers who advertise with us,î Ms Castro said.
ìWe already have 20,000 jobseekers signed up with us, and each day this number grows.î

Ms Castro said niche boards such as bluecollar.com.au offered companies lower campaign costs and were growing in importance as candidates turned to more specialist job boards.
