This month Onrec.com, hosted its first Conference for online recruiters in Sydney, Australia. Over 100 delegates attended at the Sydney Harbour Marriott to listen to speakers from their home country, the UK and Canada.

Australiaís largest job board, Seek.com.au, was represented by Product Director, John Finley, who mooted that job boards would sooner or later be judged on placements made. A point supported by many of the delegates.

ëRecruitment agencies are measured on placements but jobboards have generally escaped this precise metric owing to their positioning as advertising vehicles. It would be an interesting development.í Said David Hurst Conference host.

Fellow speaker, Todd Wheatland, Regional Director APAC at Kelly, covered employer branding online and marketing tactics such as blogging and Internet social networking that recruiters are expected to use widely over the coming year.

Australia Postís (the equivalent of our Royal Mail and Post Office) implementation of an online strategy to handle recruitment to support its 35,000 strong team, coast to coast, was outlined by Mike Giuffrida of NGA.net.

The Conference was hailed as a success by delegates with Brett Iredale of GuruSearch, North Sydney commenting ëThe Conference was informative, relevant, and refreshing. We enjoyed the international flavour and the relevance of the topics and speakers.í

Onrec.com plans to hold its second Online Recruitment Conference in Sydney at the same time next year.

Internet penetration has reached 80% in Australia with 2.1 million candidates using job boards.
