As the Olympics approaches, only one in four UK employees is intending to keep track of the games

As the Olympics approaches, a recent Monster poll finds only one in four UK employees is intending to keep track of the games

Monster has found that only a quarter of employees in the UK plan to keep regular track of the Olympics during their working day. With an embarrassment of riches in the sporting calendar this summer, including Euro 2008, Wimbledon, the Golf Open and the Olympics, itís not surprising that companies are reaching sports fatigue.

Monster Meter recently asked 703 workers in the UK ìWill you take time out of your workday to keep track of the Olympics?î and the overall results revealed the following:

9% (64 votes) ìYes, every chance I getî
18% (131 votes) ìOccasionally, to keep tabs on my favourite eventsî
72% (598 votes) ìNoî

According to the poll workers in other countries such as Canada are the most likely to take an interest, with 40% of respondents intending to keep up with results to some degree, and Finnish (32%) and Hungarian (38%) workers planning to get regular updates on their favourites. French workers showed the least interest, with a massive 94% of respondents not planning to keep tabs on it at all, perhaps linked to their failure to secure the 2012 Games.

ìAlthough itís always good to see that employees are focusing on the work at hand, the Olympics is a special occasion,î said Julian Acquari, Managing Director, Monster UK and Ireland. ìBuilding a positive environment in the office over a major event like this can bring colleagues together. The Monster UK office is planning to run a sweepstake on medal winners to encourage a bit of healthy competition.î
