Another successful ‘IT’s not just for the boys!’ event

October’s IT’s not just for the boys! event – sponsored by Deloitte for the second successive year – was a resounding success

October’s IT’s not just for the boys! event – sponsored by Deloitte for the second successive year – was a resounding success.  The careers event brings female students together with recruiters so they can further understand the benefits, rewards and challenges of the IT industry.  The event’s aim is to support the demand for more female undergraduates within the technology sector.

At the event, 12 leading UK employers offered 81 of the UK’s brightest female students looking for IT roles the opportunity to network with their staff, skills building workshops and practical team challenges.  The students also heard from inspirational speakers, journalist Kate Russell and coach, writer and speaker, Kate Taylor, and were given the opportunity to network with junior and senior representatives from the partnering employers, including Deloitte.

“This event was so fantastic,” said Hui Min, a student from University of Warwick. “I never would have dreamed of getting 1:1 sessions with top directors and industry leaders. I really want to stay in touch and send in those applications this week!”

The event also gave selected students a real flavour of working life by visiting the impressive Deloitte Digital offices in Clerkenwell before the main event.

Kirsty Drummond, TARGETjobs Events Account Director said “IT’s not just for the boys! is a great way for female students to gain insights into the industry, and getting an introduction to the working culture of an influential organisation such as Deloitte Digital was of huge benefit to them.”

Giles Warner, Deloitte Digital Head of Talent, added: “Our team and culture reflect the diverse nature of the work that we do, requiring a mix of people with a range of skill sets, personalities and backgrounds. We value individuality and the willingness to have a distinct point of view – as this makes us better able to address our clients’ challenges in innovative ways.”

With an ever increasing number of studios spread across the globe, the team at Deloitte Digital includes creative designers, channel strategists, engineers, architects and product specialists.
