Companies continue to add more executive leaders than they are shedding against the backdrop of a continuing economic recovery, yet they’re doing so quietly and cautiously as they eye future growth, according to ExecuNet’s inaugural Executive Job Creation Index data released today.
Introduced with this announcement, ExecuNet’s Executive Job Creation Index (EJCI) is based on a monthly survey of executive search firms and reflects executive recruiters’ expectations for how companies will leverage the economy from a management talent point of view. The March survey data reflected in today’s release compares the number of companies expected to add executive positions over the next six months versus those planning to downsize their management teams.
The latest data, which is based on a survey of 184 executive recruiters conducted in March, reveals the number of companies expected to add executive talent during the next six months is greater than those expected to shed executive jobs during this period of time by 11 percent. Year-over-year, the EJCI is up from a reading of –30% in March 2009.
“The Executive Job Creation Index reflects a positive trend that our members have been reporting during the past three months - the executive employment market, much like the broader economy, is in a much better place than it was last year,” says Mark Anderson, President and Chief Economist of ExecuNet, the private membership network for senior business executives and those who recruit them. “We’ll continue to track executive job creation as a companion leading indicator to our Recruiter Confidence Index to help executives, human resource professionals, and search firms better understand where the job market is expected to head in the months to come.”
