A number of additional high profile speakers have been announced to take part in the two new BETT co-located conferences, ‘UK Education Leaders @ BETT’ and ‘BETT International’.
Estelle Morris, Baroness Morris of Yardley and Fiona Millar, writer, journalist and founder of the Local Schools Network, join the UK Education Leaders @ BETT panel for robust debate around the changes ushered in by the change of government. Taking place on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 January, conversation is sure to be lively and will help sharpen leaders’ focus on truly cost-effective delivery of high quality education. In addition the debate will enable them to better understand how Academies and Free Schools with affect UK education.
Baroness Morris of Yardley is a member of the House of Lords who is active in a number of organisations in both education and the arts. Estelle is a former teacher, Member of Parliament and opposition spokesperson for Education and Employment.
Fiona Millar specialises in education and parenting issues. In 2004 Fiona wrote and presented a film ‘The Best for My Child’ about parental choice for Channel Four, and has also presented several programmes for Teachers TV. Fiona is currently chair of Comprehensive Future, which campaigns for fair admissions to secondary schools. She is a chair of governors of a local secondary school, the chair of the governors’ forum which oversees a post 16 consortium of four local secondary schools and the vice chair of the Camden governors’ association. ‘BETT International’, which takes place on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 January, gathers education policy makers, influencers and leading practitioners from every part of the world for a two day debate. Discussion will be based on maximally effective education policies and systems to prepare learners for the challenges of the twenty first century global economy.
BETT International’s recently confirmed speakers include Lee Davis, Daniel Wilson and Dr. Leslie Conery. Lee Davis, director of academic planning and development at the Aga Khan Academy, Maputo. Lee oversees curriculum and master planning for the Academy which is due to open in 2013. Lee also has responsibility for developing an ICT strategy for the Academies network as a whole, which ultimately aims to connect teachers and learners together across 18 Academies located in some of the most challenging environments in the world.
Daniel Wilson, deputy principal at Manurewa High School, New Zealand is also a part of the BETT International panel. For the past two years Manurewa High School has been involved in an initiative to raise achievement through effective ICT professional development, working closely in a cluster with two contributing schools. Daniel is the project director for the cluster.
Dr Leslie Conery is deputy CEO of the International Society for Technology in Education, a non-profit association dedicated to transforming learning environments. Leslie has served on numerous boards and advisory groups supporting innovative educators on every continent and has collaborated with educators and policy-makers globally to bring about systemic change in education.
