Malcolm Hughes, The Managing Director of North West based recruitment agency TheWorkpoint (with branches in Blackburn, Bolton and Burnley) is off to Germany in his Westfield XTR2!

Car-enthusiast Malcolm has always wanted to drive the most challenging race track in the world ñ the Nurburgring Nordschliefe in the Eiffel mountains region of Germany, and now his chance has arrived. Malcolm will be joining 70 other enthusiasts on a charity ëCannonball Runí in July.

After the ferry crossing at Dover the group have a 700 miles round trip across France, Belgium and Germany to face as well as driving the circuit itself. That may not sound too bad until you realise the car is a race car with no roof, no windscreen, no heater or radio to keep you amused and the ëair-coní is provided by mother nature! Once they arrive, the participants face The Nordschlieffe ñ a 14 mile long, 78 corner circuit that takes around 10 minutes to complete. No wonder it has the reputation as the most challenging race track in the world!

Is Malcolm scared of the challenge? QuoteÖ ìYes a little, but I will be very careful of course. Weíre doing this for charity so I really, really want both the car and I to come back in the same condition as we went! - Iím more concerned about whether the car will be reliable enough for the whole journey as these cars are not really designed for a long distance event like this, but we are going to give it our best shot! There is also some doubt it will get up the ramp to the ferry as it only has 3î ( 75mm) ground clearance! But such is the spirit of the event that the other participants have offered pick it up and carry it on board if we have to! If you said weíre bonkers to even try this I wouldnít argue with you. But itís for charity and Iím sure weíre going to have a lot of fun along the way.î

Malcolmís chosen charity for the event is Cancer Research, and space is available for corporate sponsors who would like to put their logo on the car. All sponsorship raised will go to charity of course. The event will be televised on the Extreme-Sports channel.

If you wish to make a personal sponsorship donation or have your corporate logo displayed on the car you can contact Malcolm at TheWorkpoint on 01204 532711.
