69% Say They Do NOT Exaggerate The Information They Provide On Their CV

Last month, we asked our users, ’Do you exaggerate the information you put on your CV?’ Although, recent research suggests a great deal of lying and exaggerating on CV’s, TipTopJobës survey found 69% of users do NOT exaggerate the information on their CV (or at least that is what they say). This leaves 31% who admit to exaggerating in order to secure a job - still a reasonable number of job seekers that employers must watch out for!

Are these results promising? And can employers be rest assured that over two thirds of candidates will be totally truthful? Or is this 31% that admit to exaggerating on CV’s too much?

There is always scope for exaggeration when writing a CV and job seekers think they will get away with the odd white lie and extra qualification here and there which they may not really have. But, because this is a problem area that employers are particularly aware of these days, it is a risky game to play. Job seekers need to make sure they are providing the correct information because employers will check up on important information and if you are found to be lying then you have blown all your chances of getting the job!

If you do not qualify for certain initial criteria specified in the job description or you do not have the experience they are asking for, then it is best NOT to lie about what you can do and make yourself into something you are not. You will either get caught out or if you do get the job, you will be dropped in the deep end and become lost not knowing what to do! You may be saying, ’What happens when people think they can do the job, but do not match this asking criteria? Will employers be missing out on a quality candidate?’ The answer is ënoí, because as a job seeker, your best bet is to explain in the cover letter your situation and talk about related skills you possess and boast about your other qualities that are relevant to the job in question. Employers can then make up their own mind based on this information. Ultimately, when it comes to the crunch, honesty is always the best policy!
