The 'jobs for the boys' have run out. The gravy train is dry. Can experienced City professionals reprogramme themselves to operate in arguably the real world?
Using the train analogy - to uncouple from a streamlined locomotive that everyone admired and wanted to join, to an uncertain future is for both the foolish and the brave.
Some people will be unable to adapt. There is a whole new language to learn, finances to recalibrate, new sensitivities to adjust to and different priorities both in terms of business expectations and social interactions.
And others will make it, for some changing worlds is a liberating experience – despite the significant mountain of new challenges, they are hardy and prepared, fully commited to obtaining a new focus for their working lives, anticipating the adjustments to be made and hopeful about the warmth of reception.
