59% of Middle East hospitality workers seek change

The percentage of hospitality jobseekers in the Middle East looking to move to another group has increased year on year, according to a new survey from CatererGlobal.com

The percentage of hospitality jobseekers in the Middle East looking to move to another group has increased year on year, according to a new survey from CatererGlobal.com.

The findings of Recruitment and Retention Strategies for the Middle East Hotel Industry show that 59% believe their next job will take them to another company, up from 56% last year and 53% in 2008. Only 17% thought they would move internally within their hotel or group.

Following on from this, the report also revealed that more than a quarter of these jobseekers felt their next move would be outside the Middle East, with 26% looking to relocate to Europe and a significant increase in interest in Singapore and Africa.

The survey, which was launched last month as part of a comprehensive White Paper, examines both the motivation of jobseekers in the Middle East as well as the challenges faced by recruiters.

Other areas that it investigates include:

  • Why jobseekers consider leaving the Middle East

  • What jobsearch tools are favoured by jobseekers and recruiters respectively

  • The factors determining the jobseeker’s choice of employment when changing jobs

  • Which job roles are facing the biggest recruitment difficulties

  • What jobseekers look for when choosing an employer

Peter Willis, Sales Director for Catererglobal.com said: “Although the hotel industry in the Middle East has suffered due to the economic climate in recent years, confidence is growing. The research shows that employers need better understand their employees motivations in order to reduce staff turnover and uphold service standards.”
