This unique expedition aims to raise funds for Ataxia UK, the charity working to develop a treatment for Ataxia - a debilitating progressive neurological disease for which there is currently no cure. The flight will cover 2,000km using only the power of the sun.

A team of 8 pilots and 4 cutting-edge flying machines will take off from Monte Carlo on 24th July. Their route will cross over the Pyrenees, passing down the coast of Spain and over the Straits of Gibraltar, one of the busiest and windiest stretches of water on the planet, before finally landing in Morocco. The expedition will push the team to the limits with a punishing schedule of 150km each day, which will allow the flight to be completed within a 2 week schedule.

Damian Cardozo, founder of The Incredible Website, the organisation behind the 'Incredible Solar Electric Flight', says, "We hope to raise a large amount of money for Ataxia UK by organising what will be the world's first long distance solar powered flight. We will be using state of the art mobile tracking and navigation software so that people at home can chart the team's progress, and will hopefully be inspired to donate to this very worthy cause."

The ground-breaking flight will trial the latest developments in solar power and battery technology, and be used to demonstrate the viability of these technologies for long distance travel. The team's electric paromotors will use the latest lithium polymer battery technology and be fully rechargeable from solar panels, making it possible for the entire journey to be powered by the sun alone.
