A poll of 40,000 online jobseekers shows nine per cent exclusively use the internet to search for work – a figure that has increased by 50 per cent since last year.

In a snapshot of the UK's 13 million online jobseekers, the National Online Recruitment Audience Survey reveals thousands of people have stopped using other ways to find a job and are solely relying on the web.

Tim Elkington, managing director of Enhance Media which produces NORAS -now in its seventh year - said: "This comprehensive survey shows that for an increasing number of jobseekers, the internet is providing everything they need to find a new job. The results also show that more people are getting jobs and jobseekers are far more directed about where to look. Five years ago they would have looked at seven websites to find work, now they look at four."

The survey shows:

76 per cent have applied for a job they found online
69 per cent got an interview
65 per cent got a job
average online jobseeker is aged 35
has a salary of 31,000
uses four recruitment websites to search for work.
