Professor Ken Starkey
According to Professor Ken Starkey of Nottingham University Business School, leaders need to balance economic necessity with the challenge of developing more humane and sustainable organisations. At the heart of this vision is the notion of balance and the ability to create harmony in relationship with the self and others. This balancing act makes leadership a challenging activity which is by its very nature, intellectual, emotional and spiritual.
Ken will talk about how this notion leadership is a human attribute that should have a sense of collective or transcendent purpose and why wisdom, humility and compassion have become so important in business. He will also look at the role of education in helping to create the type of leaders needed for tomorrow's 5D Business.
A professor of management and organisational learning at Nottingham, Ken is a regular commentator in the press on leadership issues and the new economic paradigm. His most recent work is a chapter for The Handbook for Teaching Leadership published by Sage Publications.
Neela Bettridge
In the old 3D business model, an organisation is defined as a set of assets and financial indicators. However, if we shift up a gear and redefine them as human communities requiring the wise stewardship of finite resources, the terms of reference are transformed and a new multi-dimensional perspective emerges. One that is both more realistic and sustainable.
Neela will explain how an understanding of sustainability, based on societal and environmental independence, is fundamental. She will also give examples of companies where transparent governance, innovative financial models and true authenticity define a 5D business perspective driven by conscious leadership.
Entrepreneur, sustainability advisor and coach, Neela is passionate about awakening performance in leaders and organisations of all sizes. She also works as an advisor to Boards and other senior teams on corporate responsibility, developing programmes for sustainable and ethical practice. Neela co-founded one of the UK’s premier sustainability consultancies, Article 13 and has jointly authored the forthcoming book – The New Normal with Phil Whiteley. www.radical-shift.net
John Blakey
A wise leader is a systems thinker. The phrase, systems thinking, is used to describe the belief that everything is interconnected, and that it is the relationship between things, rather than the things themselves that is the primary driver behind any change. First popularised by Peter Senge in his book The Fifth Discipline, this principle sees the `system` as a living entity in its own right.
John will illustrate the interconnectedness of a systems thinking approach to personal and organisational performance. Through a series of case studies he will explain how business leaders can use this principal to take a more holistic perspective at any level. He will conclude with examples of systems centred questions, practical advice and next steps.
John has a Board level track record and led a global business when he was International Managing Director for Logica. He now focuses his time on coaching, leadership development and organisational change. His second book 'Challenging Coaching - Going beyond traditional coaching to face the FACTS', written with colleague Ian Day, is published by Nicholas Brealey in April 2012. Click here
Dawna Jones
Dawna will address how volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity can be used as a catalyst for positive change and growth. She will also explain how the new operating conditions for business are mirrored in planetary life and how nature’s principals and network’s of performance can be applied to business performance, engagement and organisational structures. Why biomimicry, fractal geometry and systems thinking will become the hallmark of the forward thinking 5D business. And, why the Darwinian view of life based on survival of the fittest and `head vs heart` centred thinking does not align with the new paradigm.
Founder of Insight Out Consulting, Dawna is a speaker, workshop leader, author and facilitator who guides teams and individuals to the next level of performance. She hosts the Evolutionary Provocateur podcast series on Management-Issues.com and is the author of Change: a unifying view of life at work. www.frominsighttoaction.com
