Managerial recruitment activity stabilized this month, falling just 0.1 points in October, according to the new CareerCast.com/JobSerf Employment Index. The October 2010 Index, which measures managerial hiring activity online, stands at 99.5, a gain of 31.7 points since October 2009.
“We are glad to see that the Index has been nearing 100 for several months in a row,” says Tony Lee, publisher, CareerCast.com. “Although we have not seen phenomenal growth month over month, 2010 has been a dramatic improvement over last year’s dismal hiring outlook.”
Denver led the way with the greatest growth in hiring this month (+18%), followed by Seattle (+14%), and Phoenix (+11%). Atlanta, Louisville, and Milwaukee weren’t far behind, with 10% growth in managerial hiring in October 2010. Chicago was the hardest hit this month, showing a drop of 11%. Hartford, which saw a slight gain in September, lost ground in October (-10%).
“Although many cities either saw a noticeable rise or a fall in managerial hiring this month, overall the United States remained about the same,” says Jay Martin, COO, JobSerf. “The Northeast continues to be the best place to find a job. This is by far this strongest region of the country and it has risen 33.7 points since October 2008.”
