War in the workplace!

.

56% of women have experienced pay discrimination in the workplace compared to only 27% of men according to research conducted on behalf of online recruitment specialists TopJobs. Setting out to investigate the age old battle of whether men really do fair better than women in the salary stakes, TopJobs received feedback from a total of 366 site visitors, of which 65% were female and 35% were male.

Overall, 74% of respondents felt that women are generally paid less than men in the workplace. Of the female/male ratio - 84% of women stated this, compared to 64% of men. However 85% of respondents feel that the gender pay gap is closing, although this held a high percentage of the male vote, with over half of all women responses in disagreement.

Although the government insists it is tackling the well-known problem, 79% of respondents did not know what the government measures were to achieve this.

Tanya Arturi, marketing manager of TopJobs comments: Identifying opinions concerning gender pay issues has been extremely insightful at a time when equality in the workplace is generally perceived to be moving in the right direction. When asked if there was a greater gender pay gap in certain industries, 85% of respondents felt there was, but one of the sectors it was not thought to be was in HR. The figures go to show that there is still much to be done if salary breaches are to be levelled out.
