Wales first National graduate recruitment fair

Wales’s first ever national graduate recruitment fair, GO (Graduate Opportunities) Wales has been launched by exhibition organisers TJW Exhibitions

Wales’s first ever national graduate recruitment fair, GO (Graduate Opportunities) Wales has been launched by exhibition organisers TJW Exhibitions to take place alongside their already successful general recruitment event, Job Scene Wales, at Cardiff International Arena on 11 & 12 November 2004.

For the first time, all of Wales’s Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) have joined forces to encourage all their students to attend this prestigious event presented by the South Wales Echo, sponsored by ELWa and supported by Careers Wales to search for graduate vacancies, gap year placements and post-graduate study opportunities.

Employers have rushed to secure their stands, safe in the knowledge that with all 11 HEIs signed up to promote the event internally they are assured of what promises to be a cracking show.

So far, the impressive exhibitor list includes ACCA, BBC, CODA Business Management Ltd, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Environment Agency Wales, European Patent Office, Graduate Barclaycard, Inland Revenue, Majestic Wines Warehouses, Marks & Spencer, Masterfoods, National Grid Transco, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, PSA Peugeot, Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd and many more.

The benefits to graduate employers of all 11 HEIs working together with organisers of Job Scene and GO Wales, TJW Exhibitions, are immense. From meeting the crme de la crme of the labour market face to face, answering their questions to interviewing onsite ensures HR departments save invaluable time and money in more longwinded recruitment methods.

There has also been previous evidence that many graduates find labour market entry challenging and research among employers suggested that entry points are becoming increasingly scattered. Job Scene & GO Wales will eradicate these problems by bringing together both groups in a relaxed and informal atmosphere where ideas can be discussed and problems overcome.

The news of this national event has been received with enthusiasm by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW).

Professor Phil Gummett, Interim Chief Executive of the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) said: This unique event is an innovative and cost effective approach to recruiting graduates which has been developed in response to the changing nature of graduate recruitment.

Students in Wales are some of the best prepared for starting their careers and this event will put them in touch with a variety of employers and information sources. The GO Wales graduate recruitment fair is a great opportunity for all, particularly as employers will be able to see students and graduates from all across Wales at one premier venue, Professor Gummett concluded.
