US Hispanic online population soars

.

The online Hispanic population in the US rose by 12 percent over the last year to reach 7.6 million at the end of June, up from 6.7 million a year ago.

This is according to new Nielsen-Netratings research which indicates that Hispanics are the fastest growing ethnic group online in the US and the third largest online group overall.

The Asian or Pacific Islander Web surfing population grew by six percent over the same period to reach 2.4 million at the end of June, while the African American online population group grew by three percent to reach 7.8 million.

However, the number of online Caucasians continues to eclipse that of other ethnic groups with more than 94 million Caucasians accessing the Internet during June, a rise of four percent year-over-year.

Overall, Caucasians account for nearly 90 percent of the online audience at home in the US.

The overall web population grew by just three percent over the year to nearly 105 million unique Internet users at the end of June.

With the exception of the Hispanic group, the market share of the various ethnicities has remained relatively unchanged, says Nielsen-Netratings,

Web usage by various ethnic groups also grew over the year with Asian American Internet users going online around 26 times in June, compared to 21 times for Caucasians, 18 times for Hispanics and 17 times for African Americans.
