Today’s labour market statistics show an increase in unemployment for the second month in a row. According to official figures from the Office for National Statistics, unemployment stands at 1.44 million, an increase of 27,000 between April and June 2004. Monster.co.uk’s site figures for July however show an increase in the number of jobs posted by 33% from June to July, comments Joe Slavin, managing director, Monster.co.uk.

In particular, we are seeing the sales, accounting, IT and advertising, marketing and PR job categories experiencing the largest increase. Growth in advertising, marketing and PR indicates an increased confidence in the economy as those jobs are the last to come back in times of economic growth and the first to go in the bad times! This signifies the beginning of the beginning.
