Following the news that The Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) has predicted that there would be 17% more graduate jobs available during 2013-14, totaljobs.com has confirmed that they have already risen 13% year-on-year.

This is according to statistics from the Q2 2014 totaljobs.com Barometer, which analyses the behaviour of 5.9 million British jobseekers and 5,000 recruiters.

Scotland and the East Midlands and are beating the national average increase in graduate and trainee opportunities with a rise of 32 per cent and 29 per cent respectively. Wales is not far behind, with an increase of 19% in opportunities within the sector compared to the same period last year.

Mike Fetters, graduate director at totaljobs.com, said: “After so many tough years for young people, it’s encouraging to see that there are more vacancies and less competition faced by graduates and young talent who are seeking entry level roles compared to last year.

“However, it’s too early to break out in celebration yet. Whilst youth unemployment has started to decline, at 18.5 per cent, it still remains far above the national average. We continue to urge employers, educators and Government to work together to improve employability skills and offer more training opportunities for the UK’s young people.”
