Three eminent psychologists to advise SHL

Feedback provided to SHL Board on research and the latest developments in academia.

SHL, global providers of objective assessment, today announced that Professor Ronald Hambleton, Professor Peter Warr and Professor Robert Roe have agreed to act as independent advisors to the group. They will meet on a regular basis and provide feedback to the SHL Board on research and the latest developments in academia.

At a time of rapid advances in research and development in the field and in academia, these individuals, who represent some of the best minds in occupational psychology and psychometric assessment, will provide independent advice and guidance to the SHL Group. They will ensure that SHL is well positioned to influence and to capitalise on advances in psychology and remains at the forefront of applying the latest science to objective assessment in the workplace.

All three new advisors are recognised as authorities in the area of occupational psychology. Professor Hambleton holds the title of Distinguished University Professor at the University of Massachusetts and is also the chairperson of the Research and Evaluation Methods Program. He is a former president and current council member of the International Test Commission and is former president of the Measurement and Evaluation Division of the International Association of Applied Psychology. He is one of the world’s leading authorities on Item Response Theory (IRT), one of the most important new trends in occupational psychology, and has written three books and numerous articles on the subject.

Professor Roe is professor of organisational theory and organisational behaviour at the University of Maastricht. He was also the founding president of the European Association of Work and Organisational Psychology, a former director of the Work and Organization Research Center and of the Netherlands Aeromedical Institute. He has written over 250 scientific publications including seven books.

Professor Peter Warr is Emeritus Professor, Institute of Work Psychology, University of Sheffield. He is an honorary fellow of the British Psychological Society, awarded for his major contributions to the development of psychology and he has also received a number of prestigious professional awards for his contributions to the field. He has also been a member of, or advisor to, numerous national and international governmental bodies and has written 25 books.

Hambleton, Roe and Warr will monitor the standards and scientific quality of SHL research and innovation and, in addition, will keep abreast of any developments in the field of occupational psychology and psychometrics to ensure that SHL has access to the latest cutting edge thinking. The international expertise of these professors, located in the USA, The Netherlands and the UK, is key as it mirrors SHL’s own international approach - gathering the newest and most applicable psychometric approaches from across the world. The three professors will also be available to brief SHL Product and Marketing Directors on developments in the academic study of occupational psychology that could be exploited commercially.

Professors Hambleton, Roe and Warr join SHL’s own leading psychologists to form a Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) that will meet regularly to discuss and monitor academic advances, SHL’s own research and the psychometric marketplace in general.
