The Scotsman changes to compact format

The Scotsman will change to a compact format on Monday, 16 August

The decision to move away from the traditional broadsheet format has been taken after the success of the compact Saturday edition of The Scotsman launched on 6 March.

An overwhelming number of readers who took part in extensive research within the Saturday compact welcomed and enjoyed the convenience of the compact format which has remained committed to quality journalism.

Iain Martin, editor of The Scotsman, said: The move to compact will strengthen The Scotsman’s position in a highly-competitive marketplace, which has seen two London-based broadsheets launch compact editions.

The new-look Scotsman will continue to provide full coverage of Scottish, UK and international news, features and sport with authority and substance along with its colour magazine and arts magazine, Critique, on Saturdays.

Steven Walker, managing director of The Scotsman Publications Ltd. added: This exciting change means additional editorial jobs and further investment in our titles and will be supported by a substantial television promotion and marketing campaign.
