Recruitment consultancies reported that the labour market in Scotland had improved again in August, showing the strongest monthly gain recorded since the Bank of Scotland survey began in January 2003. Rising demand for staff from employers led to steep increases in the number of people placed in permanent and temporary jobs, but with the availability of staff deteriorating at the fastest pace yet recorded by the survey, growing numbers of skill shortages again pushed up pay rates.
