More than three quarters of UK workers feel that they could do their boss’ job, according to the results of the latest employment survey from staffing services company, Select Appointments.

In a survey of more than 2,000 people from a variety of industries, 78% felt that they would be able to tackle a more senior role - specifically that of their boss! Whilst suggesting that UK bosses need to start looking over their shoulder, these findings also indicate growing levels of ambition and confidence within the working population.

This is good news for British organisations, as a more empowered and confident workforce can impact positively on business success. It also indicates that management positions are no longer held in awe, and that employees believe they have the necessary skills to tackle a more senior role.

According to Rachael Moss, head of marketing and communications at Select Appointments, Whilst these findings suggest that UK workers are keen to stretch themselves in a more senior role, it’s important to ensure that adequate skills and experience have been amassed first in order to avoid over-promotion. The prospect of promotion can be extremely empowering, but finding yourself in a job you’re not up to can have exactly the opposite effect.
