SHL highlights need for effective people assessment at inaugural international conference

More than 120 clients from around the world recently attended SHL’s international conference in Milan.

At the event, entitled The Human Capital Edge - delivering people value through Objective Assessment, SHL revealed that across seven countries (the UK, the USA, Sweden, the Netherlands, India, Hong Kong and Australia) the hidden expense of recruitment and development totalled US $153.5 billion. On average, this represented 1.68 per cent of GDP lost through poor people management across the seven countries.

The conference also discussed the latest techniques in effective people assessment. It featured a number of keynote speeches including those from Oracle VP of human resources Europe, Vance Kearney and SHL Group chief executive John Bateson. Organisations including Marks & Spencer, BASF and the AC Milan football team presented case studies that demonstrated how SHL helped them to overcome challenging people performance issues.

It is becoming increasingly important to recognise the value of talent in today’s business agenda, said John Bateson. We wanted clients who attended the conference to realise that selecting and managing employees seriously affects their bottom line. The positive feedback we’ve received so far indicates that many delegates are ready and willing to re-evaluate their people assessment and recruitment practices.
