The Bristol office of Select Education plc took on a new recruit recently when Operations Director Peter Flannery was sponsored to go ëback to the floorí for the day to raise money for Bristol-based charity SARI (Support against Racist Incidents).

During the day, Peter was challenged by the Bristol office team to work as a specialist recruitment consultant, and was sponsored by Select Education team members throughout the companyís nationwide network of offices. As well as dealing with requests from schools throughout the Bristol area for teachers and teaching assistants, Peter was expected to contact schools to take new requirements for teachers and let them know about teachers who were available to help schools with their staffing needs. He was also required to visit local schools on visits.

Working as a recruitment consultant is a stressful business, so on arrival Peter was presented with a consultantís survival kit, which contained a can of Red Bull, a jumbo pencil, plasters, a Yorkie bar, lollipop and a mini Jack Daniels bottle (strictly for consumption only when the office had closed for the day!).

Andrew Crowley, manager of the Bristol office of Select Education commented, ëThroughout the course of the day he spoke to lots of teachers, greeted teachers coming for interview, and dealt with queries, although he didnít make any tea or coffee. When we analysed his activity, heíd successfully placed three temporary teachers, attended two visits to schools, and taken a number of bookings, so it wasnít a bad start for a beginner consultant.í

Peter Flannery added, ëItís good to go back to basics from time to time ñ the day certainly helped me to empathise with our teams of consultants more readily! Working as a recruitment consultant for just one day can only give a flavour of whatís involved but it was useful to deal with our client schools and with teachers more directly than is normally possible. It was also great that the Select Education team supported me with sponsorship and so we raised over 300 for SARI, which works to support victims of racial incidents in Bristol.í

Select Education in Bristol is also currently collaborating on a poster campaign with the SARI to raise awareness about the help SARI can offer to victims of racial crime.
