Recruiters at the security service (mi5) prepare to chat on-line

.

Graduates and students across the country are being offered a chance to question the Security Service on the organisationís training and employment prospects, courtesy of the Graduate Prospectsí live on-line chatroom, Careers Chat Live. The Service has at least 60 Graduate positions to fill and will be taking questions from prospective applicants on Wednesday 21 January between 2 and 3pm. They will answer questions in relation to recruitment, training and careers in the Service.

The Security Service is following in the footsteps of other top graduate recruiters who have used the Careers Chat Live to ìmeetî prospective candidates, present their organisations in a lively question and answer session, and generally get to know the forthcoming graduate cohort. The Service has a variety of graduate positions to fill including posts as generalists starting their career as investigative desk officers, or for those wishing to use their language skills (both mother tongue and learnt skills).

The on-line chatroom facility is fast becoming a preferred route for students to seek advice about graduate positions and application procedures within specific organisations. It provides an informal environment in which students can explore likely opportunities in some detail and receive direct responses from participating organisations which makes it a distinctly personal yet comfortably distant procedure.

Typical questions put to graduate recruiters who have previously taken part include: What does the graduate training programme consist of? How much do graduates get paid? Does the organisation fund professional qualifications? What does the employer look for in an applicant? How should the tricky ìqualities and experienceî questions be answered?

A Recruitment Manager from the Security Service commented that: ìThis is an exciting opportunity for us, and one which we are looking forward to. Career opportunities in the Security Service are varied and fulfilling, and we hope to be able to convey some of that enthusiasm for our work to prospective candidates by participating in Careers Chat Live.î

Mike Hill, chief executive of Graduate Prospects, comments:

ìMI5 has always had a certain appeal for graduates, so I am delighted that they are participating in Careers Chat Live where the realities of working for the organisation can be presented. We anticipate that this chat will be especially popular with students.î
