REC Publishes Manifesto for European Elections

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation has published a manifesto for the forthcoming European elections, being held on the 10th June.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation, the industry body for the private recruitment sector, has published a manifesto for the forthcoming European elections, being held on the 10th June.

The document was sent to all candidates standing for the major political parties and will be following this up with an ongoing information campaign once the new MEPís are elected.

The manifesto highlights the major contribution made by the recruitment industry across the European Union and calls for candidates to fight to amend the proposed Agency Workers Directive, should they be elected.

The provision of effective recruitment solutions is increasingly seen as the backbone of a flexible, dynamic and inclusive labour market and the REC Manifesto highlights the benefits to both recruiting companies and to individual job seekers.

The REC is also calling on MEPs to ensure that the implementation of the proposed EU Services Directive, which is designed to make it easier for businesses to be set up in other EU countries, is not dependent on other directives, such as the agency workers directive.

Commenting on the manifesto, Tom Hadley, Director of External Relations at the REC said:

ìOur manifesto is all about highlighting the massive contribution that the recruitment industry can make towards the targets set out in the Lisbon Agenda ñ those of improving competitiveness and labour market participation.

The accession of new member states means more opportunities to recruitment firms to make a difference, but we must engage with decision makers and convince them of the benefits that a flexible labour market can bring. Within this context, it is vital to ensure that the provision of effective recruitment solutions is encouraged and that potentially damaging legislation is resisted.î
