Psychometric reduces recruitment spending

.

Cognisco, developer of specialist measurement tools that test employeesí knowledge, understanding and confidence, today launches Profiler for mass psychometric assessment of candidates within the recruitment and promotion process. Cognisco Profiler appraises candidates against a benchmark of common denominators of exceptional performance within a particular role. A percentage ífití with this benchmark predicts the degree to which a candidate will excel at the role and integrate into the company. Costing around 15 per person, in comparison to the industry average of up to 150, companies now have the option of using psychometric testing for potential recruits at all levels and at scale rather than for just a small number of senior appointments.

Too often, companies hire people based on interview technique or previous experience only to find that in the longer term, they are not suited to the position through personality or temperament. The business case for psychometric testing is clear, as illustrated by the Coca Cola Retailing Research Group* whose report states that as consumers demand higher levels of customer service, the attitude of the retailerís staff will become more and more important. Currently, psychometric testing is not widely used in the recruitment of shop-floor and customer service personnel. Yet, each year the consumer-facing industries see between 18 percent and 40 percent of staff turnover, leading to significant costs and lower levels of customer
satisfaction.

Cognisco Profiler measures 36 discreet personality dimensions and rates candidates against a model developed in conjunction with the employer. These personality dimensions are very stable and, unlike skills, are difficult to influence through training or coaching. The Cognisco Profiler report is designed to be easy for a manager to read and, in contrast to traditional psychometric tests, does not require additional interpretation by a psychologist - thus making it highly suitable for large-scale or ongoing recruitment drives.

Scott Sharp, CEO of Cognisco, states, Recruitment is a significant and ongoing challenge for many companies - especially in the consumer-facing industries where staff turnover is high (and therefore expensive) and where there are significant number of applicants for a single role. We believe that too much focus is placed on the current skills of applicants to the detriment of assessing their temperament and psychological aptitude for the ups and downs of customer service roles. Profiler redresses this by analysing a candidateís characteristics and matching them to the íideal candidateí benchmark.
