PSL offers Qwiz best practice guidance to recruiters

Seeking to purchase skills testing in 2004

PSL, sole distributor of QWIZ assessments in the UK, offers best practice guidance on the top ten questions recruiters should be asking themselves when looking at skills tests.

Recruiters should consider the following prior to purchase:-

1.Validation. Are the tests validated? Test publishers are responsible for documenting validation methodologies and score analysis results including adverse impact analysis and normative data. Ask to see a detailed validation report.

2.Job-relatedness. Does a test accurately simulate the software or work task it represents? The content and design of the test should relate directly to the job. Ask to see a demonstration.

3.Technical Support. Is the testing product supported by a technical support department with personnel specifically trained for that product? Ask if the company has a dedicated technical support department with trained professionals who are capable of answering questions, as well as trouble-shooting. If a technical support department does exist, ask for the hours of operation.

4. Research & Development. Does the testing vendor have a consistent, reliable test development methodology? Are the tests accurate and consistent? Find out how they develop their product and whether or not they have content experts.

5.Stability. How long has the company been in business? Do they have reputable references? Ask for a list of users who can provide information on both the company and the testing system.

6.Comprehensive Reports. Do score reports clearly indicate an applicantís skill level as well as pinpoint specific areas of strengths and weaknesses? Ask to see examples of score reports.

7.Security. Does the testing system prevent the applicant from terminating the test, toggling to other applications, and accessing administrator controls? Ask your supplier how they protect the integrity of the testing system.

8.Customisation. Can the supplier develop tests that respond to the specific needs of your company? Is there an additional cost for this feature? Ask if customising features is included in the testing system and if there is an additional cost involved.

9.Training. Is end user training available? Ask the supplier what sort of training materials are available to help ensure that the tests are properly administered. Is there a cost associated with those materials?

10.Satisfaction. How well does your supplier meet the criteria outlined above? Ask yourself what you are getting for your money. You may have to spend a little more when purchasing a quality testing system but the longevity of the testing system, as well as the relationship with the supplier, will last much longer.
