An Otley-based recruitment company’s charity event has been an unprecedented success, having doubled its target distance and raised £355.10 for three worthy causes!
The staff of Blue Octopus Recruitment, along with the townspeople of Otley, took to exercise bikes throughout last Friday (4th July) to raise money for Bliss, Yorkshire Cancer Research and MS Society - charities that the company supports throughout the year. The funds will help to advance the great work they’re doing to help those who need it most.
Inspired by the Tour de France, Blue Octopus team members had the idea of staging their own cycling event. With two exercise bikes borrowed from local health club Club Energy, and a determination to succeed, company staff and local business owners took turns pedalling throughout the day.
Racking up twelve hours of riding time between them, and tracking total distance ridden, participants soon exceeded the 190km (118 miles) target - the length of the first stage of the Tour.
Organisers revised the target and by the end of the event, a total of 380km – 236 miles – had been travelled, without ever leaving the front door!
Blue Octopus tweeted and made Facebook updates throughout the day, with photographs, and managed to entice a large amount in donations from passers-by.
The three charities benefitting from the day will receive equal shares of the funds. Blue Octopus supports these causes throughout the year, by donating £1 for every vacancy that they as a recruitment company are able to fill, and with other fundraising efforts.
