New talent investment drives success at Renault London city

major recruitment and training drive is helping to propel Renault London City ñ part of the manufacturer owned Renault Retail Group of 21 dealerships nationwide

Renault London City ñ the Renault dealership in the heart of the capital ñ is making a priority of investing heavily in its After Sales department. A major recruitment and training drive is helping to propel Renault London City ñ part of the manufacturer owned Renault Retail Group of 21 dealerships nationwide ñ to business success, and is providing its customers with the best possible service on cars that are more technologically advanced than ever.

General Manager Ian Plummer said: ìRenault London City is making a considerable investment in its staff ñ both new recruits and experienced employees. We need to do this to keep up with the rapid pace of technological advancement in Renault cars, which have seen many sophisticated features added to a wide range of models in recent years. The investment is reflected in increasing customer satisfaction levels, with more than 90 per cent of our service customers remaining loyal.î

The dealership, which prides itself on giving easy access to Renault main dealer services for people who live and work in the City, Docklands and Central London, has appointed additional technicians, customer service advisors and apprentices to its 50-strong workforce to boost its ability to provide a top level of customer service at its Commercial Road site.

Amongst the new staff are three apprentices ñ two in the first year, and one in the second year of a three-year Renault-backed modern apprenticeship programme, which leads to industry recognised NVQ qualifications. Apprentices are sent on six two-week residential courses each year at Renaultís 2 million training facility near Nottingham, where they get to develop their skills on the latest Renault models. Two Renault London City Apprentices were among the first to graduate from Renaultís Nottingham Training Centre earlier this year. Renault London City is currently looking for more applications from would-be technicians to join the Renault Modern Apprenticeship Programme this summer.

Service Manager at Renault London City, Adam Brace, explained how Renault London City and its customers benefit from the investment in apprentices: ìFrom their training at the Renault centre and back at the workshop ñ with the guidance of qualified Technicians and Renault Technical Experts ñ the apprentices have a very detailed knowledge of Renault cars and all the latest technical features. As well as learning about the vehicles, apprentices are trained to observe good workshop practices and are shown how to use the latest equipment, much of it computerised.î

At the other end of the scale, for more experienced Renault Technicians who have proved themselves over a minimum of five years, the training continues with the opportunity to become a Renault Technical Expert (RTE) after a further year of advanced and intensive training. Once qualified, RTEs receive at least two weeks offsite training every year after qualification. Renault London Cityís RTE, Angelo Costantino, not only offers guidance and advice to his colleagues at the central London dealership, but is a consultant to technicians at other Renault dealerships. He is part of the Renault ëtechnical boardí and is briefed on the latest technological advances on Renault cars.
