Niche email provider ITZoom (www.itzoom.com) has launched a new Web-based email service developed exclusively for information technology professionals.

The service is set apart from other Web-based email services by way of its portfolio of occupation descriptive domain names that enables IT professionals to create email addresses relevant to their profession. Members of the service can choose from a large list of domains such as itconsultant.net and it-professional.net to create ëprofession relatedí email addresses like john@itconsultant.net and jane@it-professional.net.

Until now, most IT professionals made do with an email account provided by an Internet Service Provider (ISP) or signed up for a free account offered by a mass-market, Web-based email service. However, because these services are typically geared towards general audiences they tend not to cater for the specific needs of individual market groups like those of IT professionals.

ìWe spotted a void in the email market wherein there was no service focused solely on the requirements of IT professionalsî, said Todd Routt, the companyís founder and CEO. ìConsidering this is such a large audience with salaries still above the national average , we were surprised that no serious contender existed for this sector of the email marketî.

Mr Routt based ITZoomís business model around the assumption that IT professionals would want to enhance their professional image through more transparent ways. Interestingly this is reminiscent of a current market trend where IT professionals are being urged to enhance their marketability by staying current with their technical skills and keeping records of their professional experience, especially amid the growing movement in the IT industry of outsourcing IT jobs offshore.

ìIn the past it was enough for IT practitioners to keep abreast of technical developments,î said British Computer Society Professional Director Malcolm Sillars. ìNow, however, not only do they have to keep their technical skills up-to-date, employers are demanding they prove it.î

ITZoomís concept of boosting professional image doesnít stop at providing more visually appealing email addresses. The service can also lay claim to having a world-class email messaging system that easily rivals those of the bigger and more established Web-based email services. Outsourced from its technology partner USA.NET, ITZoomís email messaging system utilizes best-of-breed technology and has an excellent reliability record that extends back to 1997. USA.NET is credited with launching the very first Web-based email service, an honour most pundits would attribute to Hotmail.
