One of the fastest growing specialist providers of e-learning services, the Hampshire and Solent Learning Hub (HSLH), is celebrating as it secures two major contracts from the government funded University for Industry (Ufi).

HSLH has been awarded a two year term for its contract in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight where it has enrolled more than 85,000 people on e-learning courses over the last three years. It has also been awarded a new two year contract to develop the existing e-learning provision in Berkshire.

The Hub has successfully operated the Hampshire ëlearndirectí contract for the last 3 years working hand in hand with more than 50 learning centres - from further education colleges and libraries to community centres and voluntary organisations.

In 2002/3 it enrolled some 42,000 people on learndirect courses in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Since August 2003 the hub has enrolled more than 45,000 courses.

Berkshire currently has 9000 people enrolled on e-learning courses but the new Hub has targeted to increase this figure by 10% during the term of its contract.

The Hub offers more than 500 specially designed on-line courses in self development across a range of topics and skill levels ñ everything from skills for life to an NVQ Level 5 in management. These are available to anyone who has access to an internet linked PC.

ìWe are so pleased to have been awarded the two contracts. We are very proud of what we have achieved as a team,î says Denise Candy, CEO of HSLH. ìThese contracts feel like recognition for all our hard work. It is great to have been able to help so many people achieve their goals.

ìlearndirect is a great initiative to be involved in ñ it is the training solution of the future,î says Denise. ìIt enables people, young and old, experienced or complete beginners, to develop through cost-effective training available at a time, place and pace to suit them. As such it really is unique and becoming increasingly popular.î

HSLH offers courses in subjects across the board from home and office IT and skills for life, to business and management, specialist IT and languages.

The focus for the coming two years for HSLH will be to generate more enrolments in skills for life courses. They have also targeted to encourage more small and medium sized businesses to support their employees to enrol on courses to improve their skills and enhance their personal development.
