Locums matched with medical vacancies in seconds by SMS

Thanks to vision express husband and wife team

A Glasgow-based husband and wife team, Gordon and Susan Greig, has developed a system, LocumRx (www.locumrx.net), which will change the face of medical recruitment by instantly matching available locums to employers that have vacancies. The Greigs developed the stress-free service after experiencing persistent staffing issues with their award winning optical retail franchise, Vision Express.

With LocumRx, locums register their occupation, location, and the dates they are available with the central database, using a secure online system. When an employer has a vacancy, they contact LocumRx, and the job details are immediately cross-referenced against all available professionals, who then automatically receive the information by SMS to their mobile phones.

LocumRX is highly accurate: it alerts locums to the latest job opportunities in their chosen specialism and profession ñ within minutes of a vacancy being announced. The process is free for locums, while employers are charged a mere 12p per text, making it the fastest and cheapest recruitment option available.

LocumRx is based on a year of intensive research and development by the Greigs, who run four Vision Express stores. The Greigs had frequently struggled to find available locums to cover holiday and sickness absence. As Susan worked as a successful career locum in the past, she understood the recruitment situation from both the employerís and locumís perspective. Despite her services being in high demand, she sometimes heard about the best jobs after theyíd gone, and became increasingly dissatisfied with agency procedures: a scenario familiar to most working locums.

Gordon Greig explained: ìStaffing was one of the biggest challenges at Vision Express. It proved almost impossible to book someone suitable at short notice, without spending hours ringing medical professionals ourselves or employing expensive agencies, who didnít always get results. After years of trying to devise a viable alternative, we finally had a ëEureka momentí about sending text messages.î

He continues: ìLocumRx benefits everyone who uses it, and puts the locum in control of the texts they receive. They can keep up with the latest jobs, practically to the second, without being pestered by intrusive calls when theyíre consulting patients.î
