Law firm brings affordable law for businesses

Glaisyers has launched a unique new service that will give businesses across the UK an affordable alternative to employing their own in-house lawyer

MANCHESTER law firm Glaisyers has launched a unique new service that will give businesses across the UK an affordable alternative to employing their own in-house lawyer.

Headed by Joanne Sanders, the service is aimed mainly at businesses that require regular legal advice but can’t justify the cost of adding a hefty legal salary to their payroll.

Sanders called on her many years experience working as an in-house lawyer in industry when devising the service.

My motives were partly selfish, she says. Since moving into private practice I really miss the emotional involvement of working closely with a business. Although it’s frowned upon to admit it, when you work on a project basis for a client, you never really get under their skin.

After conducting a lot of research, it became clear that businesses also felt they were missing out from such a remote approach.

Our new service aims to bridge this gap by offering businesses the services of a lawyer but on a retained basis. Basically, we’ll pre-agree a monthly fee with a client and they’ll be able to turn to us for on-going advice without the worry of being presented with a huge fee note at the end of it.

Ian Duncan-Lewis, CEO of Alsager-based retail technology company Galleria, thinks that Glaisyers is on to a winner.

It’s so easy for legal fees to escalate out of all proportion. Being able to agree a monthly fee, much like you do with a PR or marketing consultant, makes so much sense. Although for it to work in practice, I think that both parties have to accept that there will be some months where the client is over-serviced and others where they only receive a basic input.
