The nation’s workforce could be set to deliver a major shock to its employers as candidates are overwhelmingly insecure and are looking elsewhere as 2004 gets underway.
Over 500 users were surveyed by Jobsite.co.uk, the UK’s leading online recruitment website and a remarkable 96% of those users stated that they are planning to move jobs this year.
Overall, there was a strong sense of insecurity over their current roles, coupled with some slight optimism about the recruitment market in general. Although 76% expressed a feeling of insecurity in their current positions, 60% did feel optimistic that the recruitment market would pick up in 2004.
Jobsite has already reported record levels of site usage for at the start of 2004 coupled with record levels of site activity.
Confirming the number of ’active’ job hunters using Jobsite.co.uk at the start of 2004 is the final part of the survey, which revealed that 73% of those taking part had already applied for new positions in 2004.
Jackie Jones, Jobsite’s HR manager, comments: It is no secret that the start of a New Year brings with it very high levels of activity in the recruitment market, but to see such an overwhelming response from our users is extremely encouraging.
This confirms that not only are there a number of people out there that are insecure and unsettled in their jobs, but they are going out there and actually doing something about it.
They are making the applications and are feeling more optimistic about their chances of making that change.
