Interviews on recruitment and retention

hrgateway.co.uk

Better late than never, HR Gatewayís long-awaited third e-book, Interviews on Recruitment and Retention, was released today containing a range of interviews from leading people on the issues facing HR today.

With an introduction from best-selling business author, Mike Johnson, HR Gatewayís innovative e-book interviews are split into two parts. The first offers advice from services providers while the second questions those at the coalface of HR.

David Marshall, director of talent at the Royal Mail candidly tells how a parent/child relationship with workers has created a bullying environment at the firm which they are now working to remove through a ëgreat place to workí scheme.

ëWe have big problems with bullying, and health and safety issues to tackle, and all of these combine to a point where although there is still a high degree of loyalty, people, although not all, donít enjoy coming to work,í he says.

Surinda Sharma, head of Diversity at Ford Europe, explains how the firm has managed to change itself from racial pariah into employer of choice. Not only are its products selling better but it cost very little to change the situation, he says:

ëThe good thing is that our diversity approach has not meant that we have had to change our recruitment and retention processes.

ëWe have not changed the assessment centre or the points of recruitment but we have trained all of our assessors. We have looked at the biases in online applications and the assessment process,í he explains.

Joining them at the coal face in the e-book are Kevin McKenzie, MD of corporate clothing specialist, De Baer and the head of personnel and development at Lewisham Borough Council, Andreas Ghosh.

Service providers include Jane Fiona Cuming of Article 13 on the importance of CSR, Kate Headley of the Dextra Diversity Network on making diversity work, Roy Davies of SHL on using testing to improve R&R and Jeremy Tipper of Capital Consulting on breaking away from recruitment companies.

Whether it is diversity with its focus on securing talent wherever it presents itself, or CSR and its demands on employee and employer values, the world of employment is changing quickly.

We hope that this FREE e-book will help HR or anyone else with responsibility for R&R understand how they can meet the demands of the new world of work through the experiences of others.
