HR slow to adopt B2E initiatives, research reveals

.

70% of HR professionals would like to raise the profile of HR within their organisation, according to recent research from Softworld.

At the same time the survey, which questioned 100 HR and payroll professionals, also revealed that only 18% currently use employee self-service / B2E initiatives, despite the fact that over half have no trouble justifying IT spend on the department.

The survey was conducted last month on past visitors to the Softworld HR & Payroll events. Other results revealed that in 64% of respondentís organisations the HR department is considered of strategic importance.

When asked about the main reasons for purchasing new HR software, 76% choose increasing productivity and efficiency. Only 24% cited integrating the HR system with other departmentís software applications.

The research has thrown up some interesting results comments Liz Wood, Portfolio Director for the Softworld HR & Payroll event. Whilst many HR departments realise their strategic importance, they still strive to be recognised by the rest of the organisation for the importance of their role. With over half stating they have no difficulties in justifying IT spend, it is interesting that a lot of organisations should choose not to investigate this route further. The market currently offers a wealth of systems and applications that could help HR achieve this recognition, whilst saving the company time and money.

Other results revealed:

42% encounter difficulties when managing cultural change within their organisation.
Only 22% measure their companyís performance in terms of human capital management.
61% would like to be updated on all aspects of legal and regulatory issues at Softworld.

The next Softworld HR & Payroll event takes place from 3 - 4 March 2004 at the Grand Hall, Olympia, London. The event features an exhibition of around 75 leading solutions suppliers, as well as an educational programme comprising vendor seminar, breakfast briefing and masterclass sessions. For the first time this year, the event will be co-located with Softworld Accounting & Finance and the Business Performance & Project Management (BPPM) events. Visitor badges will allow a free cross-over between all three events.
