PROBLEM SOLVING: During the election the Tory party was criticised for being out of touch with the needs and wants of the UK populace. The ability to create a new vision and business plan for UK economic and social issues will be vital for the successful candidate.
CREATIVITY: With spin an ever important part of the political process the Tory leader needs to find creative ways of getting their message across to the media and the British citizen alike.
PROACTIVITY: William Hague suffered at the hands of the critics for jumping on any bandwagon going if it would get him a few column inches. The new leader needs to demonstrate that they have their own ideas and strategy for a conservative Britain.
DRIVE AND DIPLOMACY: Being an opposition leader is not all attack, attack, attack. Candidates need to show that they have the drive to take the Conservative party firmly into the 21st Century, which may mean modernising the party, whilst keeping grass root supporters on side.
