Great News for Students That Didnít Make the Grade

Last weekís A level results day saw great grades for some Manchester students, but thereís even better news for those who didnít achieve the results they needed.

Last weekís A level results day saw great grades for some Manchester students, but thereís even better news for those who didnít achieve the results they needed.

A study commissioned has found that well over a quarter of those going on to graduate from University were bored after embarking on a false start career. And according to Manchester recruitment Agency, beRecruitment Ltd, there are many companies in Manchester who would much prefer to train their employees in-house, from scratch.

Gone are the good old days where one might join J.G Smith Ltd at the tender age of 16 and collect a handsome handshake and gold watch on retirement. Nowadays, the employment market is much more fickle, competitive and performance-related, rather than having anything to do with length of service.

In a much more cut-throat world, up and coming generations are taught that University graduation is an essential ingredient to career success. Or is it? Carole Fossey, of beRecruitment Ltd, says:

ìSpending eight years in further and higher education only to find yourself in an entry level position can be very disheartening for many graduates, who either find that they are no longer interested in the subject they originally undertook, or that they canít get the first ëbreakí in their chosen industry.î

Many of the ëold-schoolí proprietors of SMEs prefer to shape school or college-leavers into their own business mould. The employee then potentially has eight years experience under their belt in the same time-frame as it would have taken to graduate, (except there will be no loans or credit card debt!)
Carole continues: ìWe are approached by many businesses looking specifically for non-graduates for in-house training. They are offering just as good a prospect in the long-term as a graduate role would provide.

ìI would advise anyone whoís not got the results they were looking for last week to search for a position with an established company, which offers plenty of scope for future development, training and promotion.î
