Ex-military leadership experts to teach British managers

.

An expert who lectured British army officers on leadership and hostage negotiation, and the former Head of the Royal Marinesí major training centre, are both to drill British managers in the psychology of management.

The Certificate in the Psychology of Management, a programme run by people management experts, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) will be showcased at an open evening on 10 September. This unique qualification, developed with Heriot-Watt University, demonstrates how psychological principles and the latest management thinking can improve performance at all levels, from individual managers to the whole organisation.

One former student described the certificate as ìwithout doubt among the best learning experiences I have ever hadÖin a lifetime of learningî. Students can begin the modular course at any time of year. The programme is highly flexible with students able to select those subject modules that are most relevant to them and their work. They may wish to concentrate on different areas according to current issues in their organisation or to link in with their own personal development.

Leadership is one of the most researched yet least understood aspects of human behaviour. Yet skilful leaders make or break the success of companies and other organisations. The leadership module of the certificate will teach managers to use established principles themselves and understand the psychological elements that contribute towards the best leaders.
