Egg-stra work looms for British workers after Easter

.

Everyone looks forward to their Easter break and many people take advantage of this time of year to take holidays, but research by Manpower, the UKís leading workforce management company, shows that almost half of employees say their workload builds up when they are on holiday.

The online poll asked over 1,800 people how their jobs were covered whilst they are on holiday. Key findings show that: 43 per cent said their workload builds up until they return 40 per cent have their jobs covered by colleagues in their absence 10 per cent have their workload covered by a temporary worker

A Manpower spokesperson says: Lots of people take holiday over Easter but many employees dread returning to work after a holiday, due to the increased workload they have to tackle. Unfortunately, this can counteract much of the benefit that might be gained from the holiday in the first place.

Manpower suggests the following tips to help ensure you donít have too much on your plate on your return to work: Clear your desk and do your filing before you go - the last thing you need is to return to mountains of paperwork. Let colleagues, clients and other contacts know that you will be away. If you have access them, alter your voicemail and out of office messages to let people know what date you return. Ask a colleague to check for urgent answerphone or email messages - just make sure you return the favour when they go away! Try to complete any ongoing projects before you go - that way you donít have to worry about them upon return. Ensure that someone covers any recurring tasks whilst youíre away. Prepare a handover document for them so you can enjoy your holiday reassured that they are properly briefed. Donít schedule any meetings for the day you return - undoubtedly you will have enough to catch up on without adding extra pressures.
Adds the spokesperson: Managers often donít have the time to find replacement staff but recruitment agencies, such as Manpower, take the hassle away for them. We pay particular attention to listening to our clients to make sure we understand their business and recruitment needs. This coupled with our experience and UK-wide network of over 300 offices means we provide the right staff for their business.
