Do-it-all dads - 03/2001

-

Women aren't the only ones juggling work/life issues. Annual statistics from the Families and Work Institute show more men than ever are taking an active role in household decision making and childcare. Whether it's staying home an extra hour in the morning to see the kids off to school or taking off in the afternoon for ballet recitals and soccer games, fathers are actively minding the family front, as well as attending to their career needs. A recent survey by drugstore.com found today's fathers are spending a record amount of time with their kids. It is estimated over one third of dads missed at least one day of work to care for a sick child. Both mothers and fathers want to be free to take off of work for their kids' after school activities, sports and carpools. An employer that adjusts to a worker's at-home needs may win a loyal employee for life.
