Combining Careers and Motherhood ñ The Programme

Working mums represent a high percentage of todayís workforce and it is expected to increase

Working mums represent a high percentage of todayís workforce and it is expected to increase. Many organisations now offer family friendly policies however, what many working mums want is the support to develop practical solutions to the demands in their lives.

Working mums know that parenting is a very important job. So a high percentage feel guilty about working and leaving the kids, or feel exhausted and stressed from the many commitments and responsibilities they are faced with both at home and work. Recent research demonstrates this:

3 out of 4 working mums feel guilty about not being good mothers *

8 out of 10 working mums have considered giving up work because of the stress of combining a career and motherhood *

2 out of 3 working mums feel reduced confidence in themselves and their ability to do work *

Half of working mums said they had health problems due to stress, with 43% taking time off work because of it **

These negative and unhealthy feelings harboured by mums can be detrimental to their performance and hence an organisationís morale and productivity levels.

Yet working mums do want to work and would like guidance and empathy from their employer. Research shows this:

9 out of 10 working mums want employers to help them deal with anxiety, guilt and lack of confidence *

2 out of 3 working mums want employers to support them through group sessions with other working parents in the workplace *

9 out of 10 working mums are adamant they want to work and want their employers to help them tackle the challenges *

9 out of 10 working mums believe combining career and motherhood has resulted in improved productivity, decision-making and creative problem-solving skills *

8 out of 10 working mums said the benefits of support in the workplace would be better work performance and increased commitment to stay with their employer *

The Programme:

With these statistics in mind, a new programme has been introduced to enable employers to offer their working mums the practical support they need and affect the organisationís performance, staff retention and reputation.

The programme is a 6-month course and comprises three phases:

Creating a powerful vision for motherhood and career

Developing the internal foundations for success and solutions

Personal action plan creation, implementation and support

This half-day workshop will give delegates an understanding of the benefits to both the organisation and individual staff members that result from the ìCombining Careers and Motherhoodî programme.
