AGCAS helps students get SORTED!

Scottish careers experts develop online, interactive tutorials

A set of online, interactive career development tutorials designed to help students and recent graduates to meet the challenges of the job market, have been developed by careers experts from AGCAS, the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services.

The SORTED! (Scottish Online Route to Employability and Career Development) tutorials offer students ñ whether full time, part time or distance learners ñ and graduates immediate access to professional, specialist careers advice 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Careers advisers from a number of Scottish Higher Education Institutions collaborated on the project, as Audrey McCulloch, Deputy Director for the University of Strathclyde Careers Service and Convenor of AGCAS (Scotland), explains:

ìHigher education choices are usually career related but in difficult economic circumstances many graduates accept jobs which fail to exploit their full potential. These new tutorials will help students learn the skills and tactics needed to secure graduate jobs which fully utilise their skills.î

The SORTED! tutorials cover four key topics: Making Work Experience Count, Your Graduate CV, High Impact Interviews and Finding Your First Graduate Job in Scotland. The interactive nature of the seminars allows users to apply the information and advice provided to their own personal situations. The learning experience is further aided by providing access to a wealth of relevant web based careers resources.

Adds Audrey McCulloch: ìThe tutorials have been reviewed by graduate recruiters who praised them as ëa valuable tool to all students to help them focus and think about the skills they actually have, which will build confidenceí.î

The tutorials can be accessed from relevant points within Scottish University Careers Services websites or by going to
