Totaljobs.com launches GradU8 Job Fair as recruitment season begins in earnest

Association of Graduate Recruiters says competition for graduate jobs is easing

Leading recruitment site, totaljobs.com, is to re-launch GradU8.com, the UK¹s largest online job fair. Open between 5th-8th November, the fair allows graduates to speak with prospective employers and attend online seminars to learn how best to secure a graduate role. GradU8 is launching as the graduate recruitment season begins in earnest and the Association of Graduate Recruiters is anticipating that competition for jobs will ease as a backlog of graduates begins to clear since schemes cut their numbers in 2008.

GradU8 is now in its sixth year and continues to attract high profile graduate employers eager to meet and chat with those soon to graduate. This year, M&S, IBM, the ACCA, Hays and the National Audit Office, amongst others have already signed up to exhibit online. In addition, exhibitors will have the opportunity to take questions from jobseekers, a tool used by 71% of registrants last year, allowing them to tackle engrained myths on recruitment.

Mike Fetters, Graduate Director, totaljobs.com explains: ³In a tough market, it is hugely important that graduates are given as much information as possible as early as possible so that they can make the most of the job application season. It¹s also of massive benefit to employers. With graduate recruiters receiving over 70 applications per job, it is important that applicants are well informed so that each submission is of high quality and those not suited to a particular scheme have enough information and dialogue with recruiters so they can decide on those that are better aligned to their skills and interests.²

The launch of GradU8 follows research earlier this year from totaljobs.com, which revealed that 16% of graduates have applied for over 100 jobs without success, with a further quarter of this group not invited to a single interview, suggesting that the application techniques of a sizable minority of graduates has been found wanting.
