Talent Q, a psychometric assessment specialist, has today launched Drives, an innovative new engagement solution to measure an individual’s values and motivations at work

  • Drives helps to assess what motivates employees on an individual level
  • Management report empowers line managers to directly engage with employees
  • Assessment report assesses the ‘engagability’ of employees, aligning individual and organisational values

Talent Q, a psychometric assessment specialist, has today launched Drives, an innovative new engagement solution to measure an individual’s values and motivations at work. The online questionnaire identifies the factors that help stimulate and energise people in their daily working lives and provides line managers with an easy-to-understand report to help identify how to keep individual employees enthusiastic, driven and effective.

Unlike other engagement solutions, which measure levels of engagement across an organisation, Drives is designed to address individual engagement and help realise the full potential of every employee. Crucially, Drives helps assess the ‘engagability’ of employees, ensuring organisations recruit and retain individuals whose needs and motivations are aligned with an organisation’s values, helping to reduce turn over, increase performance and increase retention levels amongst talented employees.

According to Lucy Beaumont, Solutions Director at Talent Q there has never been a more critical time to address individual engagement: “During the crisis, with fewer job opportunities available the disengaged have stayed in their jobs, biding their time before actually deciding to leave – we call this ‘ghost turnover’.  With the economy on the upturn, we believe there’s an Engagement Revolution coming and organisations need to act now and do all they can to engage the right employees before it’s too late. Drives provides a new way to energise and motivate employees on an individual level and companies need to join this new ‘Engagement Revolution’.”

Drives is suitable for use from graduate to senior management roles across all industries. It takes 30 minutes to complete and can be used in multiple contexts from recruitment and onboarding to leadership development and organisational change.  The online questionnaire measures the four domains of human motivation that energise and drive an individual at work – Challenge, Connection, Esteem, Personal – and provides clear and pragmatic insight on a wide spectrum of motivational factors in three report outputs tailored for different contexts: an Assessment report, a Management Report, and a Coaching report. Candidates also receive a free Drives Candidate report, detailing where their ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ engagement spots lie and what this means for them.

Drives is a highly versatile assessment and can be used alongside traditional macro-level engagement surveys to provide a holistic approach to increasing employee engagement and motivation as well as being used as a stand-alone assessment.

Beaumont adds: “Current engagement solutions, such as employee surveys, are designed to give organisations the ‘big picture’ on employee engagement. So while a well-designed and delivered engagement survey will give a useful measure of a company’s average engagement levels, it won’t give valuable insight into what’s making individuals tick.

“People thrive in environments where there is a close match between the organisation’s values and their own capability and motivations. Understanding what motivates an individual employee is a key piece of the talent management jigsaw and one that can’t be overlooked.

“Research conducted in 2014 has found that nearly half of all employees don’t feel that they are treated as individuals when it comes to what motivates them, and a staggering 81% reported that if their employer did understand what motivates them as an individual they would be more energised and engaged within their job. This paints an alarming state of affairs, and indicates that the low levels of engagement we are seeing in the UK are likely to be down to employees not being motivated in ways that matter to them.

“Research consistently demonstrates the negative impact of disengaged employees can have on a business, such as under performance, lower profits, high employee turnover and poor customer service. Mounting evidence suggests that as the world emerges from the economic crisis, organisations will see their staff turnover rates soar. Organisations must focus on individual engagement and join The Engagement Revolution.”
